Start with a measurable difference in a particular batch, not the name of the technology or the maximum number in the listing.
So the sorter has to remove a predetermined defect at a certain point in the process, and keep the good product, so the comparison is based on a single sample, a common protocol, and a physical balance: how much came in, accepted, rejected, and missed, and performance is only counted when the quality of selection is agreed.
Mark the item closed only when there is a document, measurement, observation or designated responsible person.

Each stage preserves the boundary between the revealed fact, the editorial method and what still needs to be confirmed.
The words "clean" or "improve quality" are not enough: state the product, the humidity and condition of the lot, the place of the machine in the process, the difference to be discovered, and the fate of each output stream. The requirements for green coffee cannot be automatically transferred to roasted coffee.
The sieve size graders divides the holes by geometry. The color sorter, or optical sorter, observes the visible signs and outputs the marked particles. Magnets, aspiration and destoner work with other physical properties. The name of the machine does not confirm the detection of a specific defect.
Maximum flow without selection criteria does not describe useful work: weigh the input, the product received and the rejects; then manually check the missed defects and the usable product in the waste. Repeat the measurement on several batches and at the pace that is planned in production.
Sustainable feeding may require a bunker, a vibrator, transport and storage. Optical selection often requires prepared compressed air, mechanical calibration requires routes of multiple fractions; both classes need safe access, cleaning, and coordinated aspiration.
Before the test, agree on the mass and composition of the sample, settings, number of passes, pace, sampling points and formula of the result. Protocol, photos of streams and stored recipes are attached to the specification, not left orally as a demonstration.

Not automatically. The optics classify the visible features, and the sieve is mechanically separated by size, and if you want both, check the sequence circuitry and the material balance of each step.
Use the same product, target defects, error criteria and measurement points. Comparing passport maxima without selection quality is incorrect.
The volume depends on the machine and the heterogeneity of the lot. Ask the supplier to name the minimum mass for a stable feed, then take enough material to adjust and several repetitions without reusing the already sorted stream.
